University Canada West is committed to academic governance that incorporates formal and structured input from faculty, staff, and students related to program and institute-wide academic decisions. The Senate’s primary focus is the academic quality of all new and existing programs.
The Senate is the senior academic body of the university. Formerly the Academic Council, it was renamed the Senate in 2023. Among other things, it advises on university academic standards, academic policies, and program approval and review. While business decisions are made by the President in consultation with the Board, the determination that a program meets the academic requirements and standards of the University is that of the Senate.

Meetings
The Senate meets monthly, on every other first Thursday of the month (from 3PM to 5PM). The meetings take place virtually, via Microsoft Teams.
The call for agenda items is circulated 14 days in advance of the meeting, with a deadline for items of 10 days prior to the meeting. Meeting materials are circulated 7 days prior to the meeting.
