10. Vancouver ranked one of the top global cities of the future
In October, Vancouver was named one of the best global cities of the future when European digital parking service provider EasyPark Group released its Cities of the Future Index, which looked at what global cities are using technology to create a more sustainable and livable present and future for their citizens.
The study looked at more than 3,200 cities around the world, analyzing each one in four areas – Digital Life, Mobility Innovation, Business Tech Infrastructure and Environmental Footprint.
The cities were divided into three categories based on size and Vancouver ranked 14th among cities with a population between 600,000 and three million.

2. BC makes PNP tech stream for international students permanent
In May, the Government of British Columbia announced that the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Tech Pilot Project is now permanent.
Launched in 2017, the tech stream of the PNP allows foreign tech workers and international students to receive nominations for permanent residence in Canada. The program aims to help tech firms in BC attract and retain qualified talent.
