An MBA degree from University Canada West will give you the business expertise you need to succeed in your career, covering skills like critical thinking, management, leadership, and business ethics. Our MBA program focuses on the practical application of theory through case studies and examples from the real world, ensuring that you get the knowledge you need to be an effective leader in the workplace.
Applicants to the MBA program may qualify for direct admission based on the following requirements:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.33 scale) or better in a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
AND
- One of the following:
- A suitable score on a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) that has been written in the last five (5) years.
- A relevant Canadian professional designation or equivalent international designation (e.g., CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, CHRP or P.Eng).
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a STEM-related program from a recognized university.
- A minimum of three (3) years documented professional or management experience with evidence of career progression and relevant education and/or training.
AND
- If your first language is not English, submit an IELTS score of at least 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in the writing band) or equivalent (TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo etc.) OR successful completion of UCW’s University Access Program (UAP) with a Grade Point Average of at least 70%. If your first language is English and you can demonstrate that you graduated from a recognized degree program in an English-speaking country, the English IELTS score or equivalent requirement is waived.
Applicants to the MBA program who do not meet the requirements for direct admission may qualify through completion of the MBA Foundation courses. Applicants to the MBA with MBA Foundation courses may qualify for admission based on following requirements:
1. If your first language is not English submit an IELTS of at least 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in writing band) or equivalent (TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo, etc.) OR successful completion of UCW’s University Access Program (UAP) with a Grade Point Average of at least 70%. If your first language is English and you can demonstrate that you graduated from a recognized degree program in an English-speaking country, the English IELTS score or equivalent requirement is waived.AND
2. A cumulative GPA of 2.33 or better in a bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institutionAND
3. One of the following:
- A suitable score on a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) that has been written in the last five (5) years.
- A relevant Canadian professional designation or equivalent international designation (e.g., CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, CHRP or P.Eng).
- A minimum of three (3) years documented professional or management experience with evidence of career progression and relevant education and/or training.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum admission standards may be considered for admission to the MBA or MBA Foundation courses if they can demonstrate potential and/or other merit for admission into a degree program at UCW. Such applicants must be over twenty-one (21) years of age on or before the first day of classes.
The Admission Committee may require further proof of English language proficiency from applicants who attended English language-based education systems if the Committee sees deficiencies in language proficiency when the application package is reviewed.
English is the language of instruction at University Canada West. If your first language is not English, you must submit proof of English Proficiency as specified in the English Proficiency section of this website.
English language test scores are valid for admission purposes for a maximum of 2 years from the date of the test.
- A completed online application;
- Unofficial electronic copies of transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended;
- Official documentation confirming professional designations, where applicable;
- A detailed chronological résumé clearly outlining educational achievements, work experience and progression, and other related experience (see template here); and
- Proof of English language proficiency as specified in the “English Language Proficiency” section of the Admissions Policy;
- Certified translations of any documents not in English.
- The Registrar’s Office may request a credential evaluation from a recognized service and/or official transcripts if additional analysis is required.
Domestic applicants who are permanent residents must provide a current copy of proof of permanent residency (landed immigrant status) with their application.
Applicants who are Convention Refugees must provide proof of their Refugee status with their application.
If you’re admitted, you must arrange for official transcripts to be sent from any previous high school and post-secondary institution along with their University Canada West application. An official transcript is one that:
- Is on official institution transcript paper or letterhead;
- Has an original signature and/or seal from the institution;
- Has been sent directly from the issuing institution to the Registrar’s Office at University Canada West and
- Documentation confirming awarding of their previous degree(s), if not already indicated on official transcripts;
The envelope must be sealed and tamper-free.
Students must submit official transcripts from every institution at which they were registered, even those from which they withdrew from classes.
