Vancouver, BC—University Canada West (UCW) has received accreditation for its University Access Courses (UAC) from Languages Canada, the regulatory body for more than 225 private and public language education schools offering English and French programs across Canada.
Official accreditation was received December 3, following an extensive review of UCW’s teacher qualifications, curriculum, administration and management, student services, physical resources, student admissions, and its marketing and promotional efforts.
“Being successfully accredited by Languages Canada validates UAC as a quality English language program in Canada’s ESL teaching community,” explained UCW Head Instructor, UAC, Carel Schoch. “Prospective students can be well-assured that the caliber of the courses offered are of a high standard.”
The process by Languages Canada began with a preliminary review and an on-site visit to UCW by an external auditor. The auditor then forwarded a recommendation to Languages Canada. After the review was complete, UCW proved it had met or exceeded the requirements set forth by the regulatory body.
“UCW works hard to ensure that we provide a quality education to our students,” said UCW President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Arthur Coren. “Accreditation recognizes these efforts and our commitment to improving our programming.”
The University’s UAC focuses on Academic English preparation and ensures students have the ability to study and complete assignments and examinations with confidence. UAC covers specific academic skills, such as writing, research methods, note taking, critical thinking and seminar or tutorial discussion, and gives students the opportunity to build a strong foundation for their education.
Accreditation is a four year cycle; after two years, an off-site maintenance review will be conducted to observe changes to the system and ensure all requirements remain intact.
University Canada West (UCW) delivers programs that provide students with the applied and theoretical basis for success in the workplace and future academic endeavours. Established in 2004, UCW continues to offer quality education with courses that transfer broadly into the public education system. Courses are offered at UCW’s downtown Vancouver campus and online.
