Vancouver, BC – Aug. 5, 2020 – As University Canada West (UCW) prepares to welcome students back to campus this fall, the school today released a new video outlining its COVID-19 reopening plan to keep staff, students and faculty safe.

“Since the onset of COVID‐19, the safety of our students, staff and faculty have been at the forefront of our response,” said UCW President Brock Dykeman. “We are planning to implement blended learning delivery for the Fall Term. This means that many students will have both online classes and limited on-campus learning.”

Students will do preparation work in an online student portal for their course before attending on-campus learning sessions with professors at the West Pender and new Vancouver House campuses.

Working closely with public health authorities and BC’s provincial government, UCW has developed a detailed plan for students and staff to return to campus safely.

The comprehensive safety plan includes:

  • mandatory masks for everyone on campus,
  • directional signs to help students, staff and faculty maintain physical distancing,
  • protective barriers in areas where students interact with staff, hand sanitizer stations at all entrances, in classrooms and in common areas,
  • limited seating capacity in all classrooms, and
  • frequent sanitization of all high-touch areas.

The University is also introducing Student Health Ambassadors, who will help ensure students are maintaining physical distancing while on campus.

Students who are unable to take classes in Vancouver for the Fall Term will still be able to take their classes online and start on-campus studies at a later date. All student services are available both online and in person.

“Our team is here to help you reach your academic goals in a safe and responsible manner,” said President Dykeman.

UCW’s full reopening plan is available on our website.
