University Canada West is planning a full return to on-campus classes starting next month.
In line with other public and private institutions in British Columbia, UCW will resume in-person learning on Monday, February 7.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming students, faculty and staff back to campus,” said Sheldon Levy, UCW Interim President and Vice-Chancellor. “The health and safety of our university community is our top priority so we will re-open in a safe and responsible manner.”
The return to on-campus learning follows the recommendations from BC Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.
Safety measures will include all on-campus staff and faculty being fully vaccinated as well as masks being mandatory in all classrooms and common areas.
While we cannot require students to be vaccinated, UCW is once again strongly encouraging students to get vaccinated before returning to campus.
Students who are not fully vaccinated or who choose not to declare their vaccination status will be required to complete a COVID-19 rapid test each week they are on campus.
UCW’s updated COVID-19 safety plan will be posted on the UCW website next week. Additional details about the return to campus will also be sent to all UCW students, staff and faculty at that time.
UCW’s Senior Leadership Team will continue to closely monitor the situation and announcements from BC’s Provincial Health Officer so they can make changes to the safety plan as needed.
