Theo Wang, who graduated from the Master of Business Administration program last year uses the skills and knowledge he learned at University Canada West to land a job as an auditor for the Real Estate Council of British Columbia (RECBC).
The Real Estate Council provides licensing and education for individuals and companies dealing with real estate sales and also protects the general public by enforcing the licensing and licensee conduct requirements of theReal Estate Services Act.
He was born in China, but moved to Manchester, England as a teen. Theo found his way to Vancouver in late 2017, where he enrolled at UCW campus. As a motivated student, he was able to earn his degree in about 15 months.
He used the accelerated time frame to help him get into the workforce faster, doing his research he learned that an MBA in other institutions would have taken two or three years. During his time at university, he balanced his school work with working part-time as a staff accountant for Manulife Financial.
Taking advantage of everything UCW had to offer, Theo attended different workshops and seminars to prepare for life after graduation. All the skills and techniques learned from them helped him deal with the grueling job hunt which after a few weeks got offered his current job working for RECBC.
The most important thing Theo got during his time studying for his master wasn’t just his education but the close friends he made here all from different parts of the world;
“UCW provided me with a platform to meet new people. For example, three of my best friends, they are all people who I got to know here,” he said.
“I would say to my fellow students who are recently new to Canada, this is definitely a good opportunity to get to know people and you might find good friends for life.”
University Canada West along with helping Theo further his education was a great platform to better understanding people and all their differences.
“You got to learn more and learn more about backgrounds, languages and their cultures”, Theo said.
During his time at UCW he formed important friendships, gained the skills and knowledge to better work and live in Canada, which has served him well since leaving the school.
