We often say change is an integral part of our lives, and adapting to change gives us the chance to grow. But do we always agree with this statement? Is it easy for any individual to deal with change? Students who decide to leave their country and start a new journey in Canada can relate to this blog. The most significant change in our lives happens when we choose to leave our comfort zone and enter a new world. When we stay in our country, we are surrounded by our friends and family. Life’s struggles appear to fade when we are walled by the people who love us. Moving to a new country and adapting to a different environment is challenging.
My name is Merryjoy, and in 2021 I decided to move to Canada to pursue my MBA. Moving to Vancouver was one of the most significant decisions of my life. I never expected that dealing with change could be so difficult. I still remember the day I flew to Canada. The most challenging task was standing at the airport and saying goodbye to my family. I still remember seeing my daughter cry as she could not come with me. My entire world was about change as I reached the YVR airport.
The journey of an international student is full of ups and downs. As a student, we can get an opportunity to learn and grow in a competitive world. At the same time, being an international student gives us the experience of working part-time to fulfill our basic needs. The experience of being an international student is incredible. It may be challenging to adapt to a new environment but isn’t it the beauty of life? We move to a new country, get to know people and build a whole new network.
I believe my journey as an international student was successful because of my university. I moved from the Philippines to complete my MBA at University Canada West. Canada is a diverse country, and adapting here is very easy. We can find people from our community, food from our country and many more. In simple words, the process of dealing with change becomes more manageable if a student moves to Canada. The culture and values practiced by Canadians make it easy for a student to develop and grow. However, the university plays a significant role in helping students adapt to a new environment. I joined University Canada West with a dream to complete my MBA. But I didn’t know that the University would make my journey so smooth. As an international student, I was scared to start my academic journey in a new country. The different patterns of education, a unique style of creating reports, online classes, various professors, part-time jobs and many more were among the issues that kept on circulating in mind before I started my journey.
Who would have ever thought that every problem that scared me would be irradicated by my university? University Canada West provides students with multiple resources like tutors, academic workshops, a flexible academic schedule, the option to select professors and access to a massive digital library. It seemed like the University had every tool to deal with the issues that come up in a student’s mind. The University not only actively supported students at the academic front but also created resources that helped students connect in a new country. Programs like the Peer2Peer Program and New Student Orientation are classic examples of UCW’s efforts to help students build a community.
The journey of an international student is full of emotions. The joy of moving to a new place, the stress of studies and work, the bitter truth of leaving family behind and the happiness of exploring new things are among the many emotions surrounding a student when they begin their journey. There aren’t enough words to help a writer express every moment of their journey. As an international student, I advise my peers to choose a university that acts as a supporting pillar throughout this journey. Establishing yourself in a new environment can be difficult but try not to lose your patience. A wise man once said that the support and guidance of our community is the ultimate way to sustainability in a changing world. The journey of an international student is complex and full of struggles. But believe me, the joy of succeeding in life comes after overcoming every challenge.
