Canada has taken the top ranking in another study released in 2022. Earlier this year, Canada was listed as the number one most desirable country in the world to relocate to for 50 countries.
With approximately 300,000 new immigrants moving to Canada every year – one of the highest rates per population of any country in the world – it’s no surprise that Canada won the title of one of the best countries to relocate to.
The findings released by Compare the Market, an Australian price comparison website, revealed that Canada’s welcoming nature to expats has made it a diverse and multicultural country attractive for relocation. And this is evident with more than eight million immigrants with permanent residency living in Canada in 2021 – roughly 21.5% of the total Canadian population.
The list of the top 10 countries to relocate to includes:
- Canada
- Japan
- Spain
- China
- France
- Turkey
- South Africa
- India
- Australia
- Greece
Canada won the rankings by a landslide as being the most desirable country for 50 other countries. Japan followed behind with 31 countries in its favour and Spain with 19 countries.
Some countries that considered Canada their top destination were Alegria, Barbados, China, Dominica, India, Jamaica, Mongolia, Peru, Spain and Tunisia.
Top five reasons to relocate to Canada
Canada has many attractive features that make it worth relocating to in 2022.
- Positive immigration plans
Canada’s positive immigration system serves as a welcoming invitation for many considering moving to Canada from US, or anywhere else in the world.
The government of Canada’s new immigration plans help fill labour market shortages and grow the country’s economic standing. Canada’s plans chart an ambitious but responsible path for immigration that will help the Canadian economy recover and fuel post-pandemic growth, all while strengthening communities and industries across the country.
- World-class education
The Canadian education system has some of the best learning opportunities for students of all ages, from kindergarten to grade 12 and more. Canada is also home to some of the top universities in the world, including McGill University, the University of Toronto, McMaster University, the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and University Canada West. Several of these top universities are located in British Columbia, which makes it a prime destination for many international students considering moving to Vancouver, Canada for their post-secondary education.
International students studying in qualifying programs are also eligible for Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP), allowing them to gain professional Canadian work experience after they graduate.
- Growing job market
Canada’s large and growing job market offers millions of career opportunities in various fields and industries, including healthcare, STEM, manufacturing, food, retail, tech, business and education.
Canada is also experiencing a critical skilled labour market gap, with the unemployment-to-job vacancy ratio at a historical low, leading to high demand for more workers in the country. In fact, more than 35% of businesses claimed they experienced a shortage of workers and 27.6% of businesses claimed they had difficulty retaining skilled employees in 2022.
- Universal healthcare
Residents of Canada enjoy universal access to healthcare. Every province and territory in the country provides its residents with access to a healthcare plan that includes essential health facilities and services.
And since the healthcare system is publicly funded, the cost of healthcare and medical expenses for residents is shared by the public.
- High quality of life
Canada is often ranked as one of the countries with best quality of life. In the 2021 Best Countries Report, Canada ranked #1 in quality of life, which reflects political and economic stability, public safety and a good job market.
Canada is also well known for its access to education and healthcare, individual freedom, environmental protection and low crime rates. Canadians also enjoy a high standard of living due to the strength of the Canadian economy.
