Tong had his Ph.D. from Washington State University (Pullman WA, USA) and did his post-doctoral training at Weil Medical School of Cornell University (New York, NY USA). Then, he worked as a lead scientist at Columbia University (New York, NY USA). As he immigrated to Canada, he worked as a scientist at National Research Council (Montreal, QC) and also started hemophilia drug development research project as an adjunct professor at Concordia University (Montreal, QC).
After he moved to Vancouver, BC, he started developing novel education methodology - currently being referred as Learn How to Learn. The specific methods are to guide individuals 16 years of age and older to develop critical thinking (also referred to as wisdom).
As he teaches science subjects at University Canada West, he guides students to develop critical thinking skills using scientific knowledge by combining his experiences in science field and his newly developed education methodology (Learn How to Learn). In his class, students are having hands-on training in developing their critical thinking and this is unique educational approaches that have not been seen from any other educational systems including universities so far.
