Program Advisory Committees
Program Advisory Committees (PACs) are responsible for advising the creation and maintenance of effective educational programs that integrate academic and industry inputs, suggesting skills or topics in demand (Policy 5000 – Program Advisory Committees).
The University solicits input on a regular basis for all the degree programs under its umbrella. Each degree program has its unique committee. PACs draw their membership from business, industry, professions, and staff or faculty from other post-secondary institutions related to programs of study at the University. It acts as a critical link between the University and the fast-changing contemporary work environment.
Roles and responsibilities
Committees may:
- Assist the University in defining objectives and outcomes of a program of study that are aligned with the University’s goals and specific skills needed by students to achieve program objectives.
- Advise the University in the development of the curriculum to meet program objectives and learning outcomes.
- Assist in the evaluation of a program of study, the curriculum, and national or provincial requirements where applicable.
- Advise on experiential and student work placements.
- Advise the University on labour market changes that may impact courses and programs, as well as the employment of graduates.
- Advise the University on requirements for new programs of study that will meet new or emerging needs within the community, province, country or abroad.
In undertaking these functions, PACs help to foster alliances with key organizations for the University, ensure a flow of appropriately educated and professionally aware graduates and undergraduates into the community, and promote the University and its programs.
