The city of Vancouver has received yet another milestone ranking to add to its collection.
In 2021, Vancouver was named the number one best city in Canada for youth work, one of the world’s most sustainable cities and one of the top 10 cities in the world for healthy living.
This year, Vancouver kicked off 2022 with a new ranking as one of the top tech-savvy cities in the world by Money.co.uk, one of the United Kingdom’s leading online comparison websites for financial services.
These rankings considered factors like average salaries to the success of startups, the pedigree of local universities offering tech degrees, annual costs of living, estimated disposable income of tech employees, average internet speed, tech job earnings and more.
Vancouver received an average university engineering and technology score of 83.3, the highest of any city featured on the list. It also ranked exceptionally well in the median IT salary category at $101,293, higher than Denver, Seattle and even San Francisco.
Vancouver is the only city in Canada included in the top 10 list of rankings, which featured cities from all around the world.
Vancouver ranks just behind Seattle and San Francisco, but ahead of Los Angeles, Stockholm, London and Hong Kong.
The findings also reveal that it’s not only the potential employment outlook in the tech sector that’s drawing people into Vancouver – it’s also the education opportunities available, particular those highlighted by QS Stars. The QS Stars higher education rating system is the world’s most popular source of comparative data on university performance.
In terms of universities highlighted by QS rankings for tech degrees, Vancouver had the highest average score.
University Canada West (UCW) received a 5 Star rating from the QS Stars higher education rating system in Fall 2021.
UCW is the third university in Canada, and the first in British Columbia, to receive a 5 Star rating from QS Stars. There are only a total of seven institutions in the United States and Canada that have received a 5 Star rating.
