University Canada West is celebrating Pride Month with events highlighting the University’s commitment to diversity and 2SLGBTQIA+ community support.

As part of the ongoing commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion within our community, UCW is hosting Beyond the Rainbow: Equality Now – Pride Panel & Social on June 18 at Vancouver House. This fun event will feature free food, games and an engaging panel discussion featuring Chris Kennedy, Director of Vancouver Pride and Dr. Drew Fockler, a UCW faculty member.

If you aren’t sure about the basics of Pride, 2SLGBTQIA+ identities and/or terminology, or anything else related to Pride Month, we encourage you to bring your questions and engage with our panelists! Please join us as we explore Pride, allyship and what this important month means to Vancouver’s community.

The panel will be followed by an afternoon of fun-filled activities, including delicious food, games, music and opportunities to socialize with fellow students and panellists.

It’s a fantastic chance to connect, learn and celebrate together in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere!

On Monday, June 3, UCW kicked off Pride Month with a film screening of the award-winning documentary Coming to You. Set in South Korea, where gay marriage remains illegal and deep-rooted discriminatory beliefs about queerness persist throughout society, this film follows two mothers as their lives are upended when their children come out to them — one as transgender and one as gay.
