University Canada West looks to defend its title when it hosts business schools from across Canada at the 2025 MBA Games from January 3 to 5.

The Games will bring together more than 300 students from 14 business schools, featuring competitions in three main areas: academics, sports and spirit.

Defending champion UCW is hosting the event after winning last year’s MBA Games, held at the Goodman School of Business at Brock University.

“It is an immense honour for University Canada West to host and participate in the prestigious national MBA Games, a momentous event that brings together the best and brightest minds from across Canada,” said UCW President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bashir Makhoul. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all participating universities, and I look forward to seeing the students’ incredible talent and leadership on display.”

Participating schools are:

  • Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University
  • Faculté des sciences de l’administration, Université Laval
  • Alberta School of Business, University of Alberta

The MBA Games were founded in 1988 by Queen’s University. The goal of the MBA Games is to foster networking, teamwork and leadership development among future business leaders. It combines academic case competitions, sports events and team-building exercises with the spirit of philanthropy, as teams often raise money for various charities.

This latest competition is branded as MG25 (short for MBA Games 2025), and the theme is “Digital Equity: Closing the Chasm.” Google and Rogers are aboard as sponsors. The event will focus on addressing the digital divide through accessibility, innovation, participation and sustainable business systems. To donate to the “Digital Equity: Closing the Chasm” initiative, see Canada Learning Code and select University Canada West in the drop-down menu.

In 2024, UCW became the first university ever to hold both the BC and national MBA Games titles simultaneously. UCW hosted the BC MBA Games in October after winning the 2023 competition.

It’s only the second time in the Games’ 38-year history that a BC school has hosted the national competition (Vancouver Island University hosted in 2017).

The MBA Games is a closed event, though you can follow the activities on the UCW’s team’s Instagram account.
