In light of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in British Columbia and concerns raised by students and faculty, University Canada West has decided to move all classes online for the month of January.
“The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff will continue to be our top priority,” said Sheldon Levy, UCW Interim President and Vice-Chancellor. “With the number of COVID-19 cases nearly doubling in a week, we felt that moving all classes online for the next month was the best course of action.”
The Winter Term starts on January 10. All on-campus classes and student services, including New Student Orientation, which runs from January 4 to 7, will be moved online for the month.
UCW’s Senior Leadership Team will continue to monitor the situation and announcements from BC’s Provincial Health Officer and will make a decision on a possible return to in-person learning later in January.
“We hope that we will be able to return to on-campuses classes again in the near future,” President Levy said. “We will continue to monitor the situation and make our decisions based on the advice and latest data from BC’s provincial health authority and Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.”
