In 2024, University Canada West became the first university to hold both the national MBA Games and BC MBA Games trophies at the same time.

UCW first participated in the BC MBA Games in 2022 at the University of British Columbia placing second.

National MBA Games

In 2023, UCW was the first new institution to be included in the Games in seven years. The team of 16 UCW students competed against universities from across the country. Read more about the national 2023 MBA Games and UCW’s Team.

UCW went on to compete against MBA programs from 15 other Canadian universities in case, spirit and sports competitions in 2024, winning the competition. UCW will host the national games in 2025.

About the MBA Games

The MBA Games was first established 34 years ago at Queen’s University in 1988. The annual competition is considered the largest MBA competition in Canada, the MBA Games provides a unique opportunity to bring together the best of academia, industry and community.

The event takes place over three days as graduate-level business students from across Canada compete in academic, athletic, and spirit events. The winning school of the overall competition is given the honour of hosting the MBA Games the following year in their home city.

Teams work to address real business problems companies and industries are facing today; this is a case competition of multiple business streams like no other.

Fun and engaging physical activities challenge future leaders’ perseverance, teamwork and adaptability.

Activities encourage teams to actively participate and engage in the MBA Games while giving back to their communities. Each year a charity is selected, and the competitors raise awareness and funds for the given charity.

BC MBA Games

UCW first competed in the BC MBA Games in October 2022 at the University of British Columbia, placing second in the overall competition. The following year, UCW placed first at the 2023 BC MBA Games.

Following UCW’s success in 2023, the University hosted the 2024 BC MBA Games on October 18 to 20, where top provincial business schools competed at our Vancouver House Campus. Vancouver Island University took home the trophy in 2024 and will host the competition next year.

About the BC MBA Games

The BC MBA Games were launched in 2015 by Vancouver Island University. The competition includes six of the best MBA schools in the province of British Columbia. In 2022, UCW became the first new institution to be included in the Games in seven years. The BC MBA Games is an annual competition held every October, created and hosted by a participating institution in BC. Each participating school will be competing over the course of three days for the coveted BC MBA Games Cup by demonstrating excellence in multiple academic, athletic, and team-building challenges.

It is the largest gathering of MBA students in British Columbia with approximately 125 student participants from institutions across the province. The games include three components Case, Spirit and Sports. Each component has various subcategories.
