University Canada West has earned ACBSP Global Business Accreditation for its MBA and BCom degree programs. The Bachelor of Business Communication program will be submitted for accreditation upon completion of its scheduled program review this year.
“This achievement puts our university in excellent company both locally and internationally,” said UCW President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Arthur Coren. “ACBSP is internationally recognized as measure of quality assurance.”
Some high-profile universities in the U.S., including institutions in the California State University system, as well as a select group of private and public post-secondary institutions across the country have earned the designation.
UCW becomes the first private university in Canada to earn the highly coveted and prestigious designation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.
“University Canada West has shown their commitment to teaching excellence and to the process of quality improvement by participating in the accreditation process,” said ACBSP Chief Accreditation Officer Dr. Steve Parscale, who will present the Certificate of Accreditation at ACBSP Conference 2017 in Anaheim, California, on June 26.
“This accreditation is evidence that University Canada West is committed to providing the highest quality business education for their students.”
UCW is now part of a select group of colleges and universities located in 55 countries around the world.
“It is critically important to our domestic and international credibility that UCW’s commitment to continuous quality improvement is measured by an internationally recognized accrediting body,” said David Wiens, UCW’s Executive Director.
Wiens led the ACBSP accreditation effort after having successfully guided the first Canadian university through the process 10 years ago.
ACBSP members are among the best educators in their respective fields, interested in learning innovative teaching methods, improving the delivery of business education programs and creating value for their students.
“It enhances opportunities for our students,” Dr. Coren explained.
Based on the Baldridge Education Criteria for Performance Excellence, ACBSP accreditation evaluates aspects of leadership, strategic planning, relationships with stakeholders, quality of academic programs, faculty credentials, and educational support to determine whether or not the business programs offer a rigorous educational experience and demonstrate continuous quality improvement.
The ACBSP accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master and doctorate degree levels.
Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in 2001 and again in 2011, ACBSP was the first to offer specialized business accreditation at all degree levels.
“We hope to pursue other accreditations in the future to further demonstrate the quality of our faculty and university,” said Dr. Coren.
University Canada West is located in the heart of Vancouver, British Columbia. The university offers both online and on-campus Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication and MBA programs. The business-oriented university provides students with the experience to succeed in their careers and scholarships to recognize students’ academic excellence.
